Solicitor Client Privilege and Current Trends in Reassessments

John Agioritis practices primarily in the area of tax litigation and tax dispute resolution. He has successfully defended and challenged a number of Canada Revenue Agency assessments and reassessments against individuals and business using various dispute resolution mechanisms and through litigation at the Tax Court of Canada.

John also represents clients on all types of criminal matters and regulatory infractions, with an emphasis on tax evasion and other allegations under the Income Tax Act and Excise Tax Act, as well as federal and provincial environmental and occupational health and safety legislation. He has appeared before the Saskatchewan Provincial Court, the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench and the Tax Court of Canada.

Thomas O'Leary practices primarily in the area of tax litigation and dispute resolution. He represents clients on various aspects of the tax dispute process, including objections and appeals to reassessments. Thomas comes to MLT from the Federal Department of Justice, where he acted as counsel to the Minister of National Revenue developing an in-depth understanding of the tax dispute process.

Thomas has made several successful appearances before the Tax Court of Canada on income tax, GST, and EI/CPP appeals, and on behalf of the Minister of National Revenue in the Federal Court. His experience includes international transfer pricing disputes, voluntary disclosure applications, taxpayer relief applications, SR&ED credit reviews and rectification applications.
