T1 Update with Tom & Joe Devaney

Thomas B. Devaney, FCA, Director of Video News Inc., consults with accountants and lawyers on tax matters as well as prepares monthly tax update DVDs, CDs, and newsletters for accountants, lawyers and other professionals.
Mr. Devaney has lectured for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, the Society of Management Accountants, the Certified General Accountants, and for the Universities of Alberta, Calgary and McGill as well as for the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Mr. Devaney is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta's Taxation Committee and is a past member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta's Goods and Services Tax SubCommittee.
Mr. Devaney has practiced exclusively in the area of taxation since 1974.
Tom was a member of the University of Alberta Golden Bears, 1968 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Mens Ice Hockey Champion team.
Joe R. Devaney, C.A., VP Education & Development of Video Tax News Inc., has been providing technical and consultation support on corporate and personal tax matters since 2007. Published by the Canadian Tax Foundation for two co-authored articles “Americans in Canada”, Joe’s practical U.S. experience includes compliance and consultation for Americans living in Canada, U.S. non- residents, and Canadian snowbirds. On the Canadian side, Joe has provided tax compliance and planning for both international and local firms.
Joe has been involved with various Video Tax News publications and has been a full time instructor with Video Tax News since 2012. He has also presented technical tax research and writing to a variety of other organizations. Joe currently sits on the steering committee of the Edmonton Young Tax Practitioners Group.
Joe and his wife Patricia delivered their third child on their own in their home when the baby arrived quicker than the midwife.
Caitlin L. Butler, CA, Tax Manager of Video Tax News Inc., Caitlin provides technical and research support as well as contributes to various Video Tax News publications. Having previously worked in the Private Company Tax group at a national CA firm in Vancouver, BC, Caitlin has experience in a wide range of personal and corporate tax matters. Caitlin is completing the CICA In-Depth Tax Course and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology.
Caitlin has also contributed to various publications including Canadian Tax Focus (Canadian Tax Foundation) and Law Now Magazine (Centre for Public Legal Education), as well as co- presented a workshop at the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Annual Tax Conference.
Caitlin enjoys travelling and the great outdoors. Her love for the outdoors, however, was shaken when she had a brush, too close for comfort, with four lions when mountain biking in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
