T1 commentary:  However, fresh from the Budget lock-up in Ottawa, Joe and Caitlin will be able to provide some inside comment on some of the new major proposals that will affect small to midsize accounting firms.

Joe R. Devaney, CPA, CA,  Joe is a Chartered Professional Accountant who has provided technical support on both corporate and personal tax matters to local and international firms since 2007. Joe’s practical experience has primarily included compliance and planning strategies for Canadian owner- managed businesses and individuals.   

Joe is a member of the Video Tax News Editorial Board which publishes four unique tax newsletters on a monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly and annual basis for Canadian financial and tax professionals. Joe also prepares and presents both live and video seminars to thousands of tax professionals across Canada relating to both personal and corporate tax.

He has also presented tax research and published articles for a variety of other organizations such as Law Now and the Canadian Tax Foundation. At the 2016 Canadian Tax Foundation – National Conference, Joe presented the sold out session “CCPC - Planning, Case Law Developments, Traps – Focus on the Small Business Deduction Changes.” In 2015, he presented “CRA Assessments, Reassessments & Penalties” at the Canadian Tax Foundation- Prairie Provinces Tax Conference and “Current Audit Issues” at the CPA Manitoba Annual Conference.

Joe currently sits on the Steering Committee of the Edmonton Young Tax Practitioners Group and is a past member of the Board of Directors for Fringe Theatre Adventures.

Caitlin L. Butler CPA, CA, Caitlin is a full time member of the Video Tax News Editorial Board. She contributes to the multiple Video Tax News publications by authoring articles, as well as providing technical and research support. She also presents live and online courses to thousands of accounting and financial professionals annually specializing in both Personal and Corporate Tax.

Caitlin contributes to various publications including Canadian Tax Focus (Canadian Tax Foundation) and Law Now Magazine (Centre for Public Legal Education). She has also presented for the Canadian Tax Foundation as well as CPA Manitoba.

After spending a number of years working on numerous private company tax and assurance files at an international CPA firm in Vancouver, BC, Caitlin has gained experience in a wide range of personal and corporate tax matters. During Video Tax News’ downtime, Caitlin enjoys moonlighting with small to mid-sized accounting firms assisting with tax matters.

Caitlin has completed CPA Canada’s three-year In-depth Tax Course. She also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology.
