Substantively enacted mandatory rules that came into effect on June 21st, 2023 and Amendments to GAAR in relation to the 2023 Federal Budget!

J. Kim Drever, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D is a Partner and the Regional Leader of MNP’s Tax Services group for the Edmonton region. Kim specializes in Canadian corporate reorganization and tax planning for businesses and their stakeholders. Kim currently serves on MNP’s Board of Directors and MNP’s Tax Executive Committee.

Working one-on-one with her clients, Kim delivers innovative tax, structure and reorganization solutions tailored to clients’ specific needs. She plans appropriate business structures while preserving wealth and ensuring that business owner needs are taken care of. In addition to internal reorganization and succession planning, Kim helps with planning and structuring the tax implications of business purchases and sales.

Kim is passionate about education, developing and facilitating tax courses for MNP generalists and specialists. She develops and lectures courses for the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program Tutorial Series 2, has previously written articles and presented at the Canadian Tax Foundation Prairie Provinces Tax Conference, and facilitated CPA Tax for the Owner Manager. Kim is frequently included as an expert in House of Commons Standing Committee of Finance and the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance hearings on tax matters.

Kim is an active member of her community, the province, and the CPA profession, and was recently presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. She currently chairs the Government of Alberta Small Business Industry Panel for Red Tape Reduction. She also has extensive volunteer board experience, most recently completing her terms as Past-Chair of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation.

Glen Thompson CPA, CA is a Partner in MNP’s Taxation Services Group with a focus on private enterprise and real estate clients.

Glen has over 30 years of experience advising private business and individual clients on a broad range of domestic Canadian tax issues, with particular expertise in corporate reorganizations, estate planning, and acquisitions and divestiture transactions. Glen also has an extensive background dealing with tax issues for charitable and not-for profit organizations and is recognized as one of the leading providers of Canadian taxation services to professional athletes.

Throughout his career, Glen has devoted thousands of hours to the training and education of other professionals in respect of Canadian tax matters. He has instructed numerous courses for professional bodies, written and presented articles at Canadian Tax Foundation conferences, and has facilitated several in-house tax courses for MNP’s partners, senior managers and tax specialists.

Glen graduated from the University of Alberta School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in 1989 and obtained his CPA (CA) designation in 1993 while working with an international accounting firm. He began specializing in tax matters immediately thereafter and completed the Canadian Institute of Charted Professional Accountants In-Depth Tax, Corporate Reorganizations and Tax Planning for the Owner-Manager Courses in ensuing years. Glen joined MNP in 1997 as one of its first full-time tax specialists and became a Partner with MNP in 2000.

Glen is an avid runner, downhill skier and fitness enthusiast. Glen coached minor hockey and soccer teams in Edmonton for 12 years and has served in various other volunteer roles with local sport and community organizations.
